Bio:

The music of composer-vocalist William Martin features intricately crafted harmonies, idiosyncratic timbral combinations, and textures with vibrant inner life. His vocal, instrumental, electronic, and multimedia works fuse microtonal harmonies with jazz vocabulary, and draw attention to the subtle details of sound.

William’s music has been performed by acclaimed ensembles and artists including JACK Quartet, PHACE Ensemble, Irvine Arditti, Marco Blaauw and Christine Chapman of Ensemble MusikFabrik, Laura Cocks, and Dana Jessen. Two scenes from his chamber opera Zwischenspiel were recently premiered by Peabody Conservatory’s opera department, and his music has been premiered at the Vienna Summer Music Festival and New Music on the Point.

William is an active performer in the Baltimore area, singing in Peabody’s NEXT Ensemble, as well as Peabody Opera productions. As a classically-trained tenor, he is particularly interested in singing the music of his colleagues, and has premiered works by Colton Townsend, Emma Tucker, and Max Eidinoff.

William is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree in Composition at the Peabody Conservatory, studying with Felipe Lara. He received his Bachelor of Music in Composition from the University of North Texas, where he studied with Sungji Hong and Kirsten Broberg.
